[ her ] bal HAIR CARE is a proudly South-Asian Canadian womxn-run business.
[ her ] bal HAIR CARE was inspired by my mother, our rituals, our love for natural remedies and is dedicated to [her]. Growing up my mother brought a lot of self-care traditions from her Pakistani household into our home here in Canada. From oiling our hair, always combining various herbs and oils, passed down from generation to generation, to my mother being an influencer before influencer was even a thing. This love for natural care impacted me throughout my adult life and my career as a hairstylist, leaning more towards natural choices from the food I eat to what I apply on my body. Especially after going through my own health journey and finding much healing through a combination of western and eastern holistic medicine. Although I always combined natural formulations for myself I realized I didn’t have the same clean, natural and fresh products to offer my clients. With everyone sitting in my chair more and more stressed with the demands of our modern world, I also noticed one after another, an increase in itchy, irritated, and stressed scalp — something I’ve dealt with myself and always felt relief after oiling my own scalp and hair. During the pandemic, with much distance between my mother and I, her being in Ottawa ON and myself in Vancouver BC, I decided it was finally time to share what I had been sitting on for years, while having something to connect with my mother, my family and our roots during a time of much distance.
The nourishing oil was inspired by the many ritual filled nights I would spend with my mother growing up, while she massaged various oils and herbs into my scalp & hair. The importance of caring for oneself with intention & presence, making the action of self-care count by connecting your mind, body & spirit with every application is what my mother taught me from those moments. An act that nourished our scalp & relationship and strengthened our hair & bond. Our nourishing scalp & hair oil is handcrafted with the same love my mother nourished me with — beginning the process by ceremonially blessing each ingredient and additionally each bottle is held close to my heart while being attuned with reiki [energy] before passing it into another’s hands, for the highest good of each person’s scalp and hair. Since we are living in a time where much is instantly expected of us, robbing us of our energy bringing my daily practice of meditation prayer + energy work to the process and shared experience was important to me. I chose to go back to my roots and I dived deep into hearing what my ancestors asked of me so I could share with you our slow beauty traditions to help bring more intention, nourishment and relaxation to your day. Each bottle is made in small batches to ensure freshness and reduce waste in UV protective amber glass bottles.
